South Africa Safari Packages – FAQs

South Africa Safari Packages – Frequently Asked Questions

A South African safari is one of the most incredible wildlife experiences on earth. Here's everything you need to know before booking your Big Five adventure.

What is the best time to visit Kruger National Park?

The best time for game viewing in Kruger is during the dry winter months of May to September. Vegetation is sparse, animals gather around water sources, and the weather is cool and dry. Summer (October to April) offers lush scenery and excellent birdwatching, but game can be harder to spot.

What is the Big Five?

The Big Five refers to the five most iconic African wildlife species: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Most of our game lodges — including Mabula Game Lodge, Motswari African Retreat, and Hlosi Game Lodge — offer excellent Big Five sightings.

What is the difference between a private game lodge and Kruger National Park?

Private game lodges offer exclusive, guided game drives in private reserves, often with fewer vehicles and more personalised experiences. Kruger National Park is a self-drive option covering a vast area. Both offer incredible wildlife — we can help you choose the right option for your budget and style.

What should I pack for a safari?

Pack neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, beige), a warm layer for early morning drives, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, binoculars, and a good camera. Avoid bright colours and white, which can disturb wildlife.

Is malaria a concern on safari in South Africa?

Some areas of Kruger and Limpopo are malaria zones, particularly in summer. We recommend consulting your doctor about malaria prophylactics before travel. Many of our lodges are in low-risk or malaria-free areas — ask us for details.

Which safari lodges do you offer?

We offer a wide range of safari experiences including Mabula Game Lodge (Big Five, Bela-Bela), Motswari African Retreat (walking safaris), Hlosi Game Lodge Amakhala (all-inclusive, Eastern Cape), Letamo at Qwabi Game Reserve (luxury), and Zimbali Lodge (North Coast). We also offer Kruger National Park packages.
